NATURAL ENGLAND

Posted by Mike Greetham | General Info

It would be remiss of me to draw attention to the potential adverse cash flow influences caused by third parties without reminding ourselves of the difficulties faced by many clients who have invested in significant stewardship projects yet have payments outstanding from 2+ years ago.

Farmers are being encouraged to use their ‘natural capital’ to the benefit of ‘public good’ but are again having their business plans put at risk by failures in ‘the system’.

Meanwhile, at a critical time of year for controlling pests on farm, Natural England have revoked three general licences in the face of a legal challenge to the way that they have been issued. The announcement made on 25th April 2019 determines that anyone shooting the species of wild birds previously covered by General Licences (04/05/06) will be breaking the law unless they have been granted an individual licence to kill them or new general licences are issued. This has caused consternation among farmers, landowners and those who are authorised by them to shoot wild birds in order to prevent serious damage to crops, livestock and feed supplies, to conserve wildlife, flora and fauna or for public health purposes.
